Why is SAP so unpopular in maintenance?

Controllers like SAP - maintenance personnel less so.

Over 10,000 companies in Germany alone use SAP to map their business processes. Of these, over 2,000 manufacturing companies use SAP PM for the system-based mapping of their maintenance. However, in many cases, the relevant department was not consulted when deciding on SAP PM/SAP EAM. Management or the SAP/IT department insisted that everyone work with SAP and that there would be no exceptions. Understandably, the maintenance department felt sidelined in the decision-making process. Even the argument of SAP PM's deep integration with other areas such as controlling, fixed asset accounting, materials management, and human resources offered little consolation. Third-party providers consistently downplay the effort required for interfaces and potential problems during SAP release upgrades. Whether a "small" maintenance system provider will still be in business in 50 years is another matter entirely. Given a free choice, the maintenance department could have selected from 90 different maintenance programs. Which maintenance software, with which functions and user interface, offers the best way to digitize my maintenance operations? It is highly doubtful that SAP would have won the contract every time. SAP PM certainly doesn't need to hide behind other programs in terms of functionality. However, for many users, SAP's user interface remains geared more towards business professionals than technical experts. In our view, this is the primary reason why SAP Maintenance is so unpopular. Further reasons for the aversion to SAP PM can be found in the attached document. To avoid any misunderstanding, we have been working with SAP Maintenance for up to 20 years. We are convinced that maintenance technicians can also work quickly and easily with SAP PM. Contact: Sales Manager Frank Ostwald at fostwald@argvis.com or +49 173 4731281.
