Flensburg municipal utilities switch their mobile maintenance to argvis

Stadtwerke Flensburg have modernised their mobile maintenance operations. The goals were to replace the discontinued SAP MAM, to digitalise paper-based processes in the power plant area and to bring maintenance across grids, service and generation onto a single platform.

SAP PM remains the leading system. The argvis; Maintenance Portal serves as the modern front end and is deeply integrated into the existing GIS landscape with Smallworld GIS and Lovion Mobile GIS. Technical objects, notifications and geodata are synchronised bidirectionally between GIS and SAP, and technicians create notifications directly from the map view. A decisive selection criterion was full offline capability, as field staff must be able to work independently of mobile network coverage. The architecture also had to scale: in SAP PM, Stadtwerke Flensburg manage around 500,000 functional locations and pieces of equipment, including 110,000 functional locations in the grid area, a further 60,000 in generation and more than 330,000 pieces of equipment, across utility segments ranging from district heating and medium and low voltage to telecommunications, gas and water.

Around 250 users now work with the solution every day. In service and generation, paper-based inspection rounds and Excel lists are a thing of the past, and the quality of damage and maintenance notifications has improved significantly. Documents, photos, current measurement readings, histories and GIS data are available directly on site at the asset. Handovers between field service and control room run without media breaks.

Further use cases are planned, including the full integration of digital checklists, the evaluation of inspection rounds and detailed analysis of plant availability.
